Can This Even Be Called Music?
Can This Even Be Called Music? thumbnail
Can This Even Be Called Music? Stuttering, sputtering guitar melds perfectly with off-kilter drumming as the group embraces their weirdness and makes no apologies. A deliberate barely in control quality adds heaps to the intensity of the music and the uncertainty inflicted upon the listener as to where things might go. Disjointed grooves that punch hard and manifest as the irresistible urge to bob one’s head are immediately impactful, standing as a hallmark of the band’s unified approach.

about

“Future Machines is a math rock trio that digs into the avant shred zone. Tight rhythms, angular guitar notes, and heavy bass rattle against each other. Quick changes snap one repetitious rabbit hole to the next. Droning bass notes provide a temporal plain for guitar and drum conversations. Sounding electronic at times, the trio battles with its own controlled spastic nature.”
- Tad Michalak, Burn Down The Capital

"The band’s self-titled EP is a feast of catchy but challenging tracks filled with odd punctuation, metrical complexity, and oddball chord progressions. This is more than a cut above the rest, it is a definitive contemporary math rock record."
- Nikk Hunter, Fecking Bahamas

"The earplugs came out for the night's closing set from this power trio that dug deep into a sweet spot between math rock and Sonny Sharrock. I'd seen two-thirds of this group in the Tequila House Band, which worked in similar terrain. With Lorenzo Castelli (drums) and Chris Pruden (synth) providing the foundation, guitarist Matt Fong could go to town, tearing off some rapidfire shred moves."
- Joe Strutt, Mechanical Forest Sound
